Saluting and Addressing Officers
All ranks of the SJAM when in uniform will remain the time-honoured custom of acknowledging officers by saluting. When not in uniform they shall stand to attention.
Officers are to be punctilious in returning all salutes.
SJAM Members should address their officers as 'Sir' or 'Madam' ('Tuan' or 'Puan' in Bahasa Malaysia). Warrant Officers (Sergeant-Majors) are addressed similarly, but do not receive the salutes. These are not acts of subserviencee but of courtesy and recognition of the authority vested in officers' appointments by virtue of the Officers' Warrents held by them.
Officers similarly address their superiors as 'Sir' or 'Madam and salute.
Salute is to be given regardless of headgear is worn or not except when on Mess Order.
During the playing of National Anthem, foreign National Anthem and during hoisting of Jalur Gemiling:
If the event is held indoor, all will stand to attention.
If the event is held outdoor, officers or contingent leaders on parade will salute while members stand to attention. All not on parade will rise and salute.
Officers and Members, when passing or being passed by Colours, shall if seated rise, stand to attention and, if in uniform, salute.
In a funeral, headgears are not to be removed.
Dress for Physical Training
Members participating in physical training are to wear Leisure Dress at the discretion of their Senior Officer. (e.g. Track Bottom, Sports Shoes, etc.)
Appearance and Dress Items
Fingernails
Fingernails of males are to be kept clean and neatly trimmed at all times and not to extend beyond the tip of the thumb/ fingers.
Fingernails of females are to be kept clean and neatly trimmed and are not to extend further than 5 mm beyond the tip of the thumb/ fingers.
Hair - Male
Hair of Ambulance personnel is to be:
Styled in a manner which does not interfere with the proper wearing of any headgear or protective equipment
Clean, trimmed and tidy and is not to fall over the line of the top of the collar
Hair colouring of unnatural colours or combination of colours of the original hair is not permitted
Hair on the neck, below and to the sides of the taper, is to be kept timmed/ shaved
Neatly groomed at all times
Hair - Female
Hair of Nursing personnel is to be:
Neatly groomed at all times
Groomed so tha tit does not fall below the eyebrows or extend below the lower edge of the shirt collar
Styled so that hair does not interfere with the proper wearing of any headgear or protective equipment
For public duties or other operations, hair should be neatly tied in a bun and covered with hair net
Hair colouring is not to be extreme. Vast combination of colours or unnatural colours of the original hair are not permitted. A relatively natural appearance should be maintained
Radical styles are prohibited. Such styles include step haircuts, mohawks or styles which have an uncombed appearance
Hair accoutrements are to be of a similar colour to the hair. Acceptable accoutrements are hair combs, clips, nets, elastic bands, hair pins and bun pieces
Long hair is to be tied back in a bun, worn braided, single plait or in a method which secures the hair to the head, which is not to be pinned up against the head and is not to extend below the top of the collar. The baird or plait may only be worn loose when on field exercises at the discretion of the unit commander. Ponytail is prohibited.
Jewellery
Jewellery is not to be worn by personnel in uniform with the exception of wrist watches, medic alert bracelets, engagement/ wedding rings. Only a single ring of each type is permitted.
Earrings
Nursing personnel, when in uniform, may wear a single keeper, stud type earring
Ambulance personnel are not permiited to wear ear jewellery of any type when in uniform or when representing SJAM in civilian clothing
Watches
A watch is not to be worn when taking part in a Ceremonial Parade and during foot drill
Gloves
White gloves will be worn by all ranks in Ceremonial Order. When gloves are worn, they need not to be removed for shaking hands
white gloves may be worn by Adults and Cadets on parade and during foot drill competitions only. However, if a division decides to wear gloves, all its members must wear and vice versa. When the white gloves are not bring worn, they are to be put out of sight and carried in the pocket or pouch. Gloves are not to be carried tucked into a belt or the shoulder straps

LEISURE WEAR
The standardised SJAM design Polo shirt serves as default attire for outdoor and physical activities
It can be worn together with uniform B (Service White) trousers or track bottom depending on the nature of the activities
Leisure wear is to be worn with flat top cap if headgear is required
